So, it's official. I'm old enough that my high school friends are starting to get married. I know this is a strange phenomenon that many have already encountered, but I'm still getting used to it. First the dear adorable Yama on whom I had a crush for a year got married to the village girl from Afghanistan. Now, Adam Cohen is engaged to his former R.A. Adam and I were the only ones to remain single through most of the incestous mating of our high school friends, and for that reason I felt pretty close to him. i got to know him even better during my John phase when I spent all my time with him and john and michael. now Adam is engaged. it's pretty exciting. and i'm happy for him because he was always sweet and kind like a big puppy who never got enough love. and now's he's getting lots of love that will soon be pretty damn official. rumor has it the ring is very very nice. I have to get down to U of O to see.
it makes me feel old though. i want to run up to him and say what's the rush!?!?! I also feel pressure. like Nick and I are next in line. a remarkably large number of my friends are still in serious relationships with their high school sweethearts. jennifer and scott. gabby and steve. lydia and eric. matt and ilona. so it's a like a big probability problem. who's next?! it's just strange to think about. i'm also very curious as to whether i'll be invited to the wedding. i realllllly want to go, so I have to figure out a way to make sure adam doesn't forget about me.

This is all very weird to me, too...marraige is so....final. Adult final. Rest-of-your-life final. I really feel like we're all still kids. I wonder if that feeling ever goes away?

i do take issue with your descriptor of our friends' dating habits as "incestuous mating". that's a little strong, don't you think?
but i also think that what matters is that you're with someone you love, so don't worry about the external stuff like engagement rings until it feels right. i hope osu is still treating you well.
